--------------- Diet*Calc 1.4 --------------- The Diet History Questionnaire (DHQ) is a food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) developed by staff at the Risk Factor Monitoring and Methods Branch in the Applied Research Program of the National Cancer Institute. Diet*Calc was created to analyze NCI versions of the DHQ as well as customized versions of the instrument. More information is available on the DHQ Web site: http://riskfactor.cancer.gov/DHQ ------------------- SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ------------------- - Pentium-based PC - 32-bit Microsoft Windows (95, 98, NT, 2000, etc.) - 800 x 600 or greater monitor resolution - Microsoft Windows display setting of small fonts (this is hopefully a temporary requirement) - Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0+ for viewing help - Support for long filenames by PC and LAN (if utilized) - 32 MBs application RAM ------------------------------- REMOVING PREVIOUS INSTALLATIONS ------------------------------- Existing versions of Diet*Calc do not need to be removed from your system prior to installing this newer version. If you wish to completely remove an earlier version prior to installing this current version, use the Add/Remove Programs icon in the Windows Control Panel. ---------------- REVISION HISTORY ---------------- These revisions refer to changes in the Diet*Calc software. Changes and updates to the foods database are documented on the DHQ Web site: www.riskfactor.cancer.gov/DHQ/database/dbchanges.html 11/01/05 - Version 1.4.3 1. An option was added to the QDD file format to make it compatible with the results file from DHQ*Web. A new QDD file for use with an unchanged DHQ*Web questionnaire was also included. 2. An option was added to the QDD file format to allow the Detailed Analysis file to show all questions in the questionnaire--even those not answered-- and display whether a question was given or missing. 3. Bug fix made to the Database Editor program because it was not adding a food to the database correctly. 4. Small bug fixes and better error messages added to DietCalc 10/12/04 - Version 1.4.2 1. The foods database included with Diet*Calc was updated. 2. A bug which left the recommendations section in the Respondent Report file blank was fixed. 3. A bug which didn't allow the Database Utility to work with new food databases was fixed. 4. An extra digit of precision was added to the Daily Freq column in the Detailed Analysis file. 5/03/04 - Version 1.4.1 A bug was fixed which didn't allow the user to save changes to the report options. 4/15/04 - Version 1.4 1. The foods database is now specified on Diet*Calc's main window and is no longer specified in the QDD (questionnaire data dictionary). This will make it easier to distribute new QDDs and foods databases. 2. A new optional file can be created by the Diet*Calc analysis. The "Excluded Records" file contains one record for each questionnaire that was excluded from the analysis due to missing data (missing facing pages, the entire questionnaire left blank, too few frequencies, too many scanning errors). 3. Missing facing pages is an exclusion. In previous versions of Diet*Calc, this exclusion only worked for NCI questionnaires. In the current version, it can be used for modified questionnaires. The pages have to be defined in the dictionary editor (Page Layout on Settings menu). 7/24/03 - Version 1.3.2 A correction was made in the printing of the respondent's report. If a report was written to an existing file, the file was not being overwritten properly. 6/26/03 - Version 1.3.1 An error was corrected in the Respondent Reports. Previous versions of Diet*Calc did not allow "Percent of Calories from Alcohol" in the report even though it could be selected in the Report Options. A change was made to the Diet*Calc program to correct this. If you are using a saved session, you will need to re-select "Alcohol" in the Report Options and resave the session. 5/01/03 - Version 1.3 1. Added functionality to modify frequency formats. Frequency formats contain the information used by Diet*Calc to interpret the codes for responses to questions such as, "how often did you eat tomatoes." The respondent can select one answer that is a number of times per day, week, month, year, or season. Frequency formats can be modified by selecting Frequency Formats from the Settings menu in the Dictionary Editor. 2. Diet*Calc now creates a dictionary for the Detailed Analysis Results File. This dictionary contains the values for the formatted variables in the file (analysis variable, database foods, and sex). 3. The file layout of the Detailed Analysis Results File was modified. Specific information about the file layout is included in the Diet*Calc help system. 4. Blank lines at the end of the file and blank spaces at the end of a record are now ignored. 5. The following changes were made to the Dictionary Editor a. Corrections were made regarding "Other Questions" to fix the option to write an Other Question to the results file. b. The Dictionary Editor was modified to allow changes to food questions that have lists of choices. Milk is an example of this type of questions. In previous versions of the software, multiple responses were not allowed for this question. c. Corrected error that caused the program to crash if no records in the data file were analyzed and the option to create respondent reports had been selected. d. In previous versions, changing the foods database in the Dictionary Editor was not recognized as a change. Therefore, the "do you want to save changes" prompt was not shown when exiting the editor. This was corrected. e. In previous versions, the descriptive text on the right side of the 1st frame of the food question wizard did not refresh correctly. While this did not affect functionality, the correct "help" text was not being shown. This was corrected. f. Corrected an error in the wizard for supplement questions. The codes for "what amount did you take in one day" were not being saved to the dictionary correctly. g. Corrected an error that did not allow sex to be added as an analysis variable if the variable had been deleted in the same editing session. 7/24/2002 - Version 1.2 An error was corrected that caused mislabeling of results in the Respondent's Report. And, new features were enabled in the Data Dictionary editor. In addition, an option to execute Diet*Calc from the DOS command-line is now available. The foods database released on the Web in April, 2002 is included with this software. This database includes carotenoid values as described on this Web page: http://riskfactor.cancer.gov/DHQ/dietcalc/databases.html The Questionnaire Data Dictionary (QDD) distributed with Diet*Calc (NCI.DHQ1.DB042402.QDD) differs from the original QDD in one respect -- the new database is used. Vers 1.2 Revisions: 1. An error in the Respondent Reports was corrected. This error caused the nutrient estimates to be shown with incorrect labels. The labels were out of synch with the values in the report. 2. New features are provided on the "Settings" menu in the Data Dictionary editor. In the "Serving Size" sub-menu, there are 3 options. One is to set the default serving size to be used when the serving size question is skipped. A new feature allows you to remove serving size questions from all food questions (without editing each variable). And, Diet*Calc now allows you to modify the coding scheme (formats) used for serving size questions. 3. Preferences was expanded to allow you to set the QDD filename and the default directory for foods database files. 4. It is now possible to execute Diet*Calc from the DOS command-line. 12/15/2001 - Version 1.0 - Initial release of Diet*Calc ----------------- TECHNICAL SUPPORT ----------------- Email: dhq@imsweb.com (You will receive a response within two business days.)
