CHIS 2007 Data Now Available

The 2007 California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) data were released in December 2008. Nearly 200 variables easily accessible on AskCHIS, as well as public-use data files, are available on the California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) Web siteExternal Web Site Policy. The CHIS 2007 sample includes more than 51,000 adults, 3,600 adolescents, and 9,900 children. AskCHIS is available at http://www.askchis.com/External Web Site Policy.

New items in the 2007 data include human papillomavirus (HPV) knowledge and vaccine use. Variables that have been collected previously on CHIS and were collected again in 2007 include a range of cancer control items such as the following:

  • cancer screening test (Pap test, mammography, colorectal cancer screening modalities [fecal occult blood test and endoscopy]);
  • hormone replacement therapy (HRT) use;
  • physical activity;
  • diet; and
  • the food environment.
